Expected Outcomes For Accredited SA8000 Certification
Accredited certification provides buyers, employees, and other interested parties with credible confidence of an organisation’s ability to sustain a high level of social performance over time
No system, scheme, or government regulatory program is able to prevent all incidents or assure 100% compliance with social performance requirements at all times.
Accredited SA8000 certification provides ongoing and reliable assurance that an organisation is upholding social performance expectations. It is central to the SA8000® Standard that organisations continuously monitor and improve their own social controls and performance. Independent oversight by certification bodies provides confidence that the organisation is managing its operations effectively.
While accredited certification is a valuable tool to evaluate performance and drive supply chain improvement, it is important to recognize that no code or monitoring system can provide absolute assurance of an organisation’s adherence to laws and labour standards on a 24/7 basis, or provide a watertight guarantee of compliance. All social auditing practices need to be considered as part of a larger effort to improve labour conditions, including equitable contractual cooperation between buyers and suppliers, worker and management training, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and various other tools to improve systems and collaboration.
