Actions Taken:
January 12, 2006: Complaint received from the President
of Double Star Democracy Union, whose members alleged persistent
issues of intimidation from its employer.
January 18, 2006: SAI acknowledged receipt of the complaint
and contacted the certification body issuing the Double Star
SA8000 certificate. The CB audit team contacted the facility
for further information regarding the collective bargaining
agreement.
Follow-up audits by the CB were planned and conducted and
the results reported to SAI.
October 19, 2006: Double Star Democracy Labor Union provided
additional information related to the allegations of restrictions
on freedom of association, discrimination, working hours and
remuneration.
Additional investigations were conducted by the CB.
July 23, 2007: SAI received a follow-up email from the Democracy
Labor Union president with additional complaints against the
company related to: unfair dismissals and threats against
the members of the unions.
SAI has continued to follow-up with BV regarding next steps
in responding to these issues. This investigation is ongoing
– the complaint is not yet resolved.
June 3, 2008: SAAS was notified by BV that Double Star has
decided not to pursue recertification. Therefore, as the facility
is no longer within the scope of the SA8000 system, the complaint
can no longer be investigated as it is no longer certified
by BV
