Actions Taken

SAI determined it was appropriate to treat a published report of deplorable conditions as a complaint; there was no formal complaint in this case. SAI initiated an investigation of published descriptions of SA8000-violating conditions at the factory.

July 21, 2000, SAI notified the certifier of the need to investigate the situation and arranged to send an SAI auditor to join its personnel on an unannounced audit.

August 11-12, 2000: at the audit, the auditors found objective evidence supporting several aspects of the complaint and major and minor corrective action requests were issued, with a follow up surveillance to verify their implementation scheduled.

November, 2000: at the surveillance audit some of the corrections were confirmed, other corrective action requests were developed, and the facility continued to be certified.

February 2001: the certificate was cancelled.
