InterAction PVO
Standards
InterAction’s Private Voluntary
Organization (PVO) Standards were developed by its NGO members
with the purpose of establishing goals that help member
agencies be more effective in management and programmatic
performance. InterAction
is the largest alliance of U.S.-based international development
and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. With more
than 160 members operating in every developing country,
it works to overcome poverty, exclusion and suffering by
advancing social justice and basic dignity.
The creation of the PVO
standards for InterAction members have resulted in the
development and implementation of procedures and processes
for managing the governance and service delivery of member
organizations. Certification by SAAS--accredited
CBs involves investigating
whether there is objective evidence that the PVO procedures
are effectively implemented by the participating members
on an ongoing basis. The certification process also identifies
areas which need preventive or corrective action to ensure
the control systems are consistently effective.
This grounbreaking program is the first
of its kind to audit compliance to any standard by a group
of international NGOs. SAAS works with InterAction to manage
this program and serves as the accreditation agency for
certification bodies which perform the compliance audits.
