John Brookes, AIG
Mr. Brookes is presently the Assistant Vice President for
quality management at AIG Consultants. As the AVP for quality
management, Mr. Brookes maintains the management and quality
processes for global insurance engineering services. This
encompasses ISO 9001 compliance systems, managing and integrating
business improvement initiatives into the business. Prior
to joining AIG, Mr. Brookes was owner of Management Accountability
Systems from 2002 to 2005, providing quality, environmental
and social accountability consulting, auditing and training.
Between 1991 and 2001, Mr. Brookes was the senior vice president
of business development for SGS International Certification
Services. In this role, Mr. Brookes was a founding member
of the SAI Advisory Board, the program manager for social
accountability, an SA8000 lead auditor and trainer, and
assisted SAI in performing social accountability reporting
evaluations. Mr. Brookes also participated in the development
of the certification program for SGS for SA8000. Prior to
joining SGS, he was a quality consultant and lead auditor
for ISO 9001 and was a registered auditor with IRCA. Mr.
Brookes currently serves as a member of the Accreditation
Committee for SAAS.
Tom DeLuca
Mr. DeLuca, formerly Vice President of Imports and Compliance
for Toys “R” Us, has over 30 years of retailing
experience and has spent the last 20 years with Toys “R”
Us in senior management positions. Mr. DeLuca is currently
Chairman of the Social Accountability International (SAI)
Governing board, part of the Social Accountability Accreditation
Services (SAAS) Accreditation Review Panel, and a member of
the Board of Directors for China Labor Watch (CLW). While
at Toys “R” Us, Mr. DeLuca was responsible for
the company’s benchmark toy safety compliance programs
that he developed and implemented in 1989. In 1995, the company
was honored by the Chairman of the US Consumer Product Safety
Commission for its significant accomplishments in toy safety.
His responsibilities included the company’s comprehensive
Code of Conduct for Suppliers program that he authored and
implemented in 1997. In that same year Toys “R”
Us was honored with “The Pioneer Award in Global Ethics”
as a corporate conscience award winner by the Council on Economic
Priorities (CEP). Mr. DeLuca was formerly Chairman of the
SA8000 Advisory Board and has been a frequent guest speaker
and panelist at numerous conferences on Codes of Conduct,
Responsible Business Practices, and International Labor Standards.
Joe Iarocci, CARE
Mr. Iarocci is the Chief of Staff at CARE, an international
NGO based in Atlanta with offices in 44 countries, over 11,000
employees and annual revenues exceeding $420 million. As CARE's
Chief of Staff, he manages CARE’s strategy and executive
functions. Prior to becoming the Chief of Staff, Mr. Iarocci
was the Chief Legal Officer, supervising inside and outside
counsel representing CARE around the world. Before joining
CARE in 1998, Mr. Iarocci practiced business law in Atlanta
and New York City. Mr. Iarocci received his A.B. magna cum
laude from Brown University, his J.D. from Cornell Law School
and a Masters in Theological Studies from the Candler School
of Theology, Emory University. . Mr. Iarocci is also a director
and member of the executive committee, Microvest, which is
a leading private sector microfinance investment fund. He
serves as a member of the Social Accountability International
SA8000 Advisory Board. Mr. Iarocci is also on the Vestry of
the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip. and speaks and teaches
regularly on ethics, leadership, and the problem of global
poverty. His community activities include membership on the
Piedmont Hospital Ethics Committee and work as a mentor for
Emory University Law School students considering careers in
public interest law.
Heiko Liedeker
Mr. Liedeker, the Director of an independent consultant firm,
was formerly the Executive Director of the Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC). From August 2001 until May 2008, Mr. Liedeker
served as the Executive Director of FSC – a global organization
equitably balancing social, environmental, and economic members
committed to the promotion of responsible forest management
worldwide. The FSC operates a forest management standard-setting
and certification system, which incorporates a credible market
label for forest products that meet its rigorous principles
and criteria. Mr. Liedeker oversaw the transformation of FSC
into the predominant standard for forest certification. He
led a comprehensive revision of the FSC’s core programs:
standard setting and accreditation. The FSC now has more than
14,500 certificates in over 85 countries, and more than 100
million ha of certified forests and plantations. Before joining
the FSC in Summer 2001, Mr. Liedeker headed the European Certification
Initiative for the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Switzerland.
Previously, he operated out of Frankfurt, Germany as WWF's
Senior Forest Policy Advisor, Forestry Department Head, and
European Forest Team Chairman. Prior to embarking on a career
in the non-profit sector, Mr. Liedeker served as an Environmental
Information Systems Advisor and Technical Advisor to government
agencies in Saudi Arabia, the Ukraine, and Germany. A native
of Germany, Mr. Liedeker holds a Masters degree in Forest
Ecology from the University of Vermont and a Diploma degree
in Forestry from Ludwig-Maximillians University in Munich.
