Jose Arguedas, Gap Inc.
Mr. Arguedas is the CSR Manager – Europe of Gap Inc
with over 8 years experience on ethical trade through his
work in "multi-partite" collaboration projects,
sustainable supply chain development and standards compliance
auditing. Since he started working for Gap Inc in 2001, Mr.
Arguedas has effectively worked with business partners and
local stakeholders to improve the company's supply chain social
responsibility performance, leading the Vendor Compliance
auditing team in Central & South America and managing
several training programs for both factory manager and workers.
Most recently, Mr. Arguedas has taken on new responsibilities
as CSR Manager in Europe where he is successfully supporting
Gap Inc.'s Global Responsibility Department's objectives and
overall agenda, representing the company in different initiatives,
such as ETI and BCI, driving for better results in the ethical
trade field. Mr. Arguedas has a B.A. in International Relations
from the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala and
took part in the SA8000 Auditor Training program in 2005.
He is also the recipient of Gap Inc.'s "Exceed Award"
for 2006.
Lorenz Berzau, Business Social Compliance
Initiative
Mr. Berzau is the BSCI Managing Director Strategy & Stakeholder
Relations at the Foreign Trade Association. He received his
Baccalaureate from the European School and attended Law School
in Germany, focusing on Economics and Public Law. While in
the military service, Mr. Berzau worked in the Public Relations
office of the General Army Headquarters. As part of his studies,
he subsequently had training positions in the Civil Court
of Charlottenburg in Berlin, at the law firm Pünder,
Volhard, Weber and Axster in Brussels, and at the European
Commission DG I, Unit for Textiles and Clothing. He also served
as a judicial service trainee at the Federal Ministry of Consumer
Protection, Food and Agriculture in Bonn. In 2002, Mr. Berzau
joined the Foreign Trade Association of the German Retail
Trade (AVE) in Cologne, Germany, where he was responsible
for Corporate Social Responsibility issues and coordinator
of the AVE Sector Model Social Responsibility. When the AVE
Sector Model was subsequently merged into the Business Social
Compliance Initiative (BSCI) in Brussels in 2004, Mr. Berzau
moved to the BSCI Executive Offices in Brussels.
Dorianne Beyer, National Child Labor
Committee
Ms. Dorianne Beyer, Esq. (L.L.M., J.D., B.A.) is the General
Counsel of the National Child Labor Committee, which has been
in the leadership of establishing, implementing and promoting
safe, healthy and developmentally sound U.S. child labor laws
and policies since 1904. In that role she has codified all
age-sensitive US laws, drafted model legislation and testified
in front of Congress. Ms. Beyer has been a national and international
labor standards lawyer, author, trainer and speaker for the
past 25 years. Most recently, Ms. Beyer was appointed to a
three-year term on the United States Department of Agriculture's
(USDA) newly convened Consultative Group to Eliminate the
Use of Child Labor and Forced Labor in Imported Agricultural
Products. Additionally, she has applied her labor policy experience
as a public consultant to such governmental agencies as the
U.S. Departments of Labor, State and Agriculture, the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the U.S.
Army, as well as to the United Nations, the Child Labor Coalition,
Burger King Intl., universities, corporations, blue ribbon
panels, policy makers, the NGO community and the media. Ms.
Beyer is also a founding principal of Labor & Monitoring
Consultants, LLC, which provides a wide range of labor standards
and practices assistance to companies, governments, trade
associations, unions and NGOs worldwide. Ms. Beyer serves
as a founding member of the Advisory Board of Social Accountability
International and is a member of Rainforest Alliance's Sustainable
Agricultural Network International Standards Committee.
Francis Boigelot, Bureau Veritas
Certification
Mr. Boigelot is the Global Technical Manager of Bureau Veritas
based in London. In this role since 2005, Mr. Boigelot oversees
the global accreditations with UKAS, RvA, ANAB and SAAS for
global systems management and sector schemes. He is responsible
for setting up global rules for management systems of certification.
Mr. Boigelot oversees a team of 2 technical consultants and
manages a team of 8 technical managers across the network.
Prior to this role, Mr. Boigelot was the Group Quality Manager
for BV from 2000 to 2005, the project manager for QMS from
1997-2000, and an internal QMS auditor from 1997 to 2000.
Additionally, Mr. Boigelot managed the government contracts
activity with the sales and marketing department between 1990
and 1996 and was the quality manager, preparing internal audits
and ISO 9000 certifications.
John Brookes, AIG
Mr. Brookes is presently the Assistant Vice President for
quality management at AIG Consultants. As the AVP for quality
management, Mr. Brookes maintains the management and quality
processes for global insurance engineering services. This
encompasses ISO 9001 compliance systems, managing and integrating
business improvement initiatives into the business. Prior
to joining AIG, Mr. Brookes was owner of Management Accountability
Systems from 2002 to 2005, providing quality, environmental
and social accountability consulting, auditing and training.
Between 1991 and 2001, Mr. Brookes was the senior vice president
of business development for SGS International Certification
Services. In this role, Mr. Brookes was a founding member
of the SAI Advisory Board, the program manager for social
accountability, an SA8000 lead auditor and trainer, and assisted
SAI in performing social accountability reporting evaluations.
Mr. Brookes also participated in the development of the certification
program for SGS for SA8000. Prior to joining SGS, he was a
quality consultant and lead auditor for ISO 9001 and was a
registered auditor with IRCA. Mr. Brookes currently serves
as a member of the Accreditation Review Panel for SAAS.
Ivano Corraini, Confederate CGIL
Mr. Corraini is currently the Secretary General of CGIL and
is nominated to lead the National Legal Office of CGIL. CGIL
is the main Italian union with over 5.7 million members. He
is also the president of the FILCAMS-CGIL Study Centre. FILCAMS-CGIL
is the fourth largest union with approximately 357,000 members.
Mr. Corraini is in charge of organizing workers and collective
bargaining through national labor contracts with national
level companies belonging to the same sectors. He represents
FILCAMS-CGIL to employer associations, national institutions,
and the Italian government. Mr. Corraini has negotiated fifteen
national labor contracts, including the Commercial Tertiary
contract, the consumer cooperatives contract, the tourism
contract, the private security contract, cleaning services
contract and house working contract.
Dan Henkle, Gap Inc. (chair)
Mr. Henkle is Gap Inc.’s Senior Vice President of Social
Responsibility. In this capacity, he heads a team of over
90 employees worldwide, responsible for the company’s
social responsibility efforts improving working conditions
in garment factories. Mr. Henkle oversees both the department’s
factory monitoring function and external engagement efforts
that together contribute to the company’s commitment
to higher labor standards. He joined the company in 1992 and
served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Gap
division and as Vice President of Global Compliance before
taking on his current role. Prior to joining Gap Inc., Mr.
Henkle worked in the human resources function for Oracle Corporation.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and
general management from Purdue University, and his MBA with
an emphasis in organizational behavior from the Haas School
of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr.
Henkle currently serves as Chair of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
George Jaksch, Chiquita Brands International
Mr. Jaksch was born in London and following studies of economics
(Cambridge, UK) and agriculture (Seale-Hayne, UK), he for
several years developed his own farming business in Colombia.
He first joined Chiquita Brands in Colombia in 1979 as financial
adviser to banana producers. After several years working for
Geest in Colombia and Spain, he rejoined Chiquita in 1987and
became operations manager of the Armuelles division on the
Pacific coast of Panama. In 1989 Mr. Jaksch became director
of quality control (Europe), based in the Netherlands, and
soon afterwards was promoted to become responsible for quality
assurance systems in Chiquita’s worldwide banana business,
with residence in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since 1999, Mr. Jaksch
has returned to Europe, initially as director of the marketing
and sales operation in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and
more recently with increasing involvement in Chiquita’s
corporate responsibility work and public affairs. A member
of Chiquita’s corporate responsibility steering committee,
he has actively and with conviction supported the evolution
of the concept. As a lead auditor, he has conducted the SA8000
audits in Chiquita’s Honduran, Guatemalan and Costa
Rican divisions, together with independent observers from
human rights NGO’s and trade unions. Mr. Jaksch is a
member of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
Eileen Kaufman, Social Accountability
International
Ms. Kaufman serves as Executive Director of Social Accountability
International. She has held this position since SAI was incorporated
in 1997. Prior to joining SAI, she was Director of Strategic
Planning at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection,
a strategic planner at the NYC Department of Design and Construction,
and a financial planner at the NYC Water Board. At SAI’s
inception, she worked at the Council on Economic Priorities,
co-authoring Paper Profits, an analysis of paper mill pollution
and its control. Ms. Kaufman is a graduate of Wellesley College,
where she earned a B.A. in Economics. Ms. Kaufman also holds
an M.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia
University.
Alice Tepper Marlin Social Accountability
International
Ms. Tepper Marlin serves as President & CEO of Social
Accountability International. She has held this position since
1997, upon the founding of SAI. She is currently also Adjunct
Professor of Markets and Ethics at NYU’s Stern School
of Business. Ms. Tepper Marlin has received numerous awards
(e.g. Adweek and Mademoiselle Woman of the Year, Japan Society
Fellow, Ashoka, Right Livelihood Award, Wellesley college
Alumna of the Year), been profiled in various newspapers and
magazines around the world (e.g. New York Times, People, Time,
Le Monde) and has also been interviewed on numerous television
and radio programs (e.g. Today Show, Good Morning America,
CNN). In 1969, Ms. Tepper Marlin founded the Council on Economic
Priorities (CEP) and served for three decades as President
& CEO. At CEP, she wrote and/or edited dozens of books,
including Shopping for a Better World (Ballantine Books).
Earlier, she served as a Securities Analyst and Labor Economist
at Burnham & Co., and as the editor of the tax journal
of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in the
Netherlands.
DKS Moorthy, DNV
Mr. D.K.S.Moorthy is the Head, Sustainability & Business
Excellence ( SBE ) Group of Det Norske Veritas, Region India.
A Graduate Mechanical Engineer from University of Madras,
India, Mr.Moorthy has 37 years of work experience, spread
over in the areas of Construction Project Management, Engineering,
Quality Assurance, Third Party Inspection and Management System
Certification activities. He started his Industrial career
in 1971 with Larsen & Toubro as a Construction Engineer
and later joined Engineers India Ltd as Consultant. He has
been with Det Norske Veritas for the past 26 years and has
been responsible for DNV’s business in the Eastern &
Southern Districts of India, covering more than 1000 clients.
Prior to taking up the assignment as Head of SBE, Mr.Moorthy
was the Technical Manager & Management Representative
for DNV, Region India, overseeing their total certification
covering about 7000 clients, 200 auditors and responsible
for maintaining the various accreditations like RvA, UKAS,
NABCB and SAAS. Mr. Moorthy is a Registered Lead Auditor for
SA-8000 and, as a Tutor, has delivered courses in SA8000.
He is also a Lead Auditor for Quality Management System (ISO
9001), Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Occupational
Health & Safety Management (OHSAS-18001) and Food Safety
(HACCP).
Mike Patrick, TNT Express
Mr. Patrick is the Divisional Head Office Director for TNT
Express based in the UK and Amsterdam. He is responsible for
the development and implementation of the global strategies
for corporate social responsibility. Mike joined TNT Express
in 2002 in the health, safety and environmental department
in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and has held various positions
over the last five years within the divisional head office.
Prior to this position, Mr. Patrick was Director of Corporate
Social Responsibility and has been responsible for Environment,
ISO and OHSAS Standards, Sustainability and Environmental
Stewardship programs globally. As Mr. Patrick has global responsibility,
he and his team travel extensively to support the business
units and countries in achieving the corporate social responsibility
strategy and standards. He is a qualified engineer and has
worked in manufacturing, enforcement, training, human resources,
risk management and operations in the public and private sectors.
He is a chartered member of the Institute of Occupational
Safety and Health and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the
Promotion of Health.
Marina Piloni, SGS Italia
Ms. Marina Piloni is the Sustainability Service Development
Director at SGS Italia, a branch of the global certification
body. Ms. Piloni’s experience at SGS Italia has been
extensive – she has been an SA8000 Global Product Manager,
a CSR product developer and a marketing developer. Additionally,
Ms. Piloni has been trained in the SA8000 Auditor Training
Course, the SA8000 Advance Training course, the BSI Lead Auditor
Training Course, and the SRA SGS Service Training, based on
GRI and AA1000, for Sustainability Assurance Statement. Prior
to working at SGS, she worked in marketing and sales, and
consultation, committing to best practices. Ms. Piloni attended
a post-diploma course from ISTEDA/Bruxelles University in
Congressional Tourism.
Rossella Ravagli, Gucci
Ms. Ravagli is the Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility
Manager at Gucci in Firenze, Italy. She is fully responsible
for the development of the Corporate Social Responsibility
programs and topics including marketing, training activities,
and support and coordination of the SA8000 standard. Ms. Ravagli
has spent over ten years working on corporate social responsibility
standards and has been responsible for development, training,
and marketing activities and commercial aspects within CSR.
Prior to working with Gucci, she was the Program Manager for
SA8000 at Bureau Veritas, a qualified SA8000 lead auditor
and tutor for SA8000 training course. Ms. Ravagli has worked
directly with Social Accountability International in many
aspects, and has been a qualified trainer for the SA8000 standard
(since January 1999) and the ISO9000 standard (July 1997-April
2003). Additionally, she is a CEPAS (IRCA Equivalent) certified
trainer (July 1998-December 2004).Ms. Ravagli has published
many interviews and articles about social accountability,
SA 8000 and human rights. Ms. Ravagli received her Degree
in Quality Assurance and Human and Resource developments,
as well as her Masters in Statistic and Economic Sciences
from Bologna University.
Alan Spaulding, UFCW
Mr. Spaulding is the Director of Global Strategies for the
United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union. In this position,
he oversees the development of strategies to promote the rights
of UFCW members and non-union workers in the UFCW’s
key jurisdictions, as well as assist unions in other countries
in their campaigns. Prior to becoming the Director of Global
Strategies, Mr. Spaulding was the Executive Assistant to the
UFCW International Affairs Director and UFCW Organizing Director.
He began his career as an intern with the Retail Clerks International
Union and the Food and Allied Service Trades Department of
the AFL-CIO. Mr. Spaulding received his degree from the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his master’s degree
from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a member
of the world executive committee of the global union federation
Union Network International (UNI) and of the board of directors
of US/LEAP. Mr. Spaulding is also a member of the SA8000 Advisory
Board.
Achille Tonani, RINA SpA
Mr. Achille Tonani is currently the Head of Sustainability,
Governance and Innovation at RINA SpA, a certification company
offering business activities including certification, verification,
assistance, and consultancy services to economic and institutional
operators. Mr. Tonani has been with RINA SpA in various positions,
including SA8000 Lead Auditor, ISO 9001 Auditor, Product Manager
for SA8000, Developer for Corporate Governance and Responsibility.
In these fields, he was responsible for developing new projects
related to social accountability, corporate governance, anti-bribery,
and health & safety. He acted as a consultant for the
Ministry of Work and took part as speaker in several national
conferences. Mr. Tonani is currently a member of the Social
Accountability International SA8000 Advisory Board and is
a consultant to the Italian government for CSR projects. He
has a degree in International Law and is an expert in the
application of OECD principles, with specific knowledge of
anti-bribery procedures.
Mort Winston, The College of New
Jersey
Dr. Winston is currently Professor at The College of New Jersey
and has served as Department Chair and Director of the Center
for Instructional Enhancement. His areas of specialization
include human rights theory, applied ethics, cognitive science,
and philosophy of technology. Dr. Winston’s most recent
books are "On Chomsky" and "Society, Ethics,
and Technology". He has contributed numerous articles
and chapters on topics related to human rights, biomedical
ethics, and applied ethics. Dr. Winston has held a visiting
faculty fellowship at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson
School of Public and International Affairs, and received a
Fulbright Scholarship to South Africa. He has lectured extensively
on human rights topics and was awarded a second Fulbright
Scholarship to Thailand. In addition to his academic career,
Dr. Winston has pursued a parallel career as a human rights
activist with Amnesty International. From 1985-1991 he served
as Director of the South Africa Coordination Group of Amnesty
International USA, served as a member of AIUSA's national
Board of Directors from 1991-1997, and as Chair of the Board
from 1995-1997. He is currently Chair of AI’s Standing
Committee on Organization and Development and was founding
Chair of the Business and Economic Relations Group of Amnesty
International USA. He is also currently Honorary Chairman
of the Board of Directors of AIUSA. Dr. Winston is a member
of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
