Dan Henkle, Gap
Inc. (chair)
Mr. Henkle is Gap Inc.’s Senior Vice President of Social
Responsibility. In this capacity, he heads a team of over
90 employees worldwide, responsible for the company’s
social responsibility efforts improving working conditions
in garment factories. Mr. Henkle oversees both the department’s
factory monitoring function and external engagement efforts
that together contribute to the company’s commitment
to higher labor standards. He joined the company in 1992 and
served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Gap
division and as Vice President of Global Compliance before
taking on his current role. Prior to joining Gap Inc., Mr.
Henkle worked in the human resources function for Oracle Corporation.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and
general management from Purdue University, and his MBA with
an emphasis in organizational behavior from the Haas School
of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr.
Henkle currently serves as Chair of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
Lorenz Berzau, Business Social Compliance
Initiative
Mr. Berzau is the BSCI Project Coordinator of the Foreign
Trade Association. He received his Baccalaureat from the European
School and attended Law School in Germany, focusing on Economics
and Public Law. While in the military service, Mr. Berzau
worked in the Public Relations office of the General Army
Headquarters. As part of his studies, he subsequently had
training positions in the Civil Court of Charlottenburg in
Berlin, at the law firm Pünder, Volhard, Weber and Axster
in Brussels, and at the European Commission DG I, Unit for
Textiles and Clothing. He also served as a judicial service
trainee at the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection, Food
and Agriculture in Bonn. In 2000, Mr. Berzau joined the Foreign
Trade Association of the German Retail Trade (AVE) in Cologne,
Germany, where he was responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility
issues and coordinator of the AVE Sector Model Social Responsibility.
When the AVE Sector Model was subsequently merged into the
Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) in Brussels in
2000, Mr. Berzau was named Project Coordinator.
Dorianne Beyer, National Child Labor
Committee
Dorianne Beyer, Esq. (L.L.M., J.D., B.A.) is the General Counsel
of the National Child Labor Committee, which has been in the
leadership of establishing, implementing and promoting safe,
healthy and developmentally sound U.S. child labor laws and
policies since 1904. Ms. Beyer has been a national and international
labor standards lawyer, author, trainer and speaker for the
past 25 years. She has applied her labor policy experience
as a public consultant to such governmental agencies as the
U.S. Departments of Labor, State and Agriculture, the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the U.S.
Army, as well as to the United Nations, the Child Labor Coalition,
Burger King Intl., universities, corporations, blue ribbon
panels, policy makers, the NGO community and the media.
She is also a founding principal of Labor & Monitoring
Consultants, LLC, which provides a wide range of labor standards
and practices assistance to companies, governments, trade
associations, unions and NGOs worldwide. Ms. Beyer currently
serves as a member of the Accreditation Review Panel for SAAS.
Francis Boigelot, Bureau Veritas
Certification
Mr. Boigelot is the Global Technical Manager of Bureau Veritas
based in London. In this role since 2005, Mr. Boigelot oversees
the global accreditations with UKAS, RvA, ANAB and SAAS for
global systems management and sector schemes. He is responsible
for setting up global rules for management systems of certification.
Mr. Boigelot oversees a team of 2 technical consultants and
manages a team of 8 technical managers across the network.
Prior to this role, Mr. Boigelot was the Group Quality Manager
for BV from 2000 to 2005, the project manager for QMS from
1997-2000, and an internal QMS auditor from 1997 to 2000.
Additionally, Mr. Boigelot managed the government contracts
activity with the sales and marketing department between 1990
and 1996 and was the quality manager, preparing internal audits
and ISO 9000 certifications.
John Brookes, AIG
Mr. Brookes is presently the Assistant Vice President for
quality management at AIG Consultants. As the AVP for quality
management, Mr. Brookes maintains the management and quality
processes for global insurance engineering services. This
encompasses ISO 9001 compliance systems, managing and integrating
business improvement initiatives into the business. Prior
to joining AIG, Mr. Brookes was owner of Management Accountability
Systems from 2002 to 2005, providing quality, environmental
and social accountability consulting, auditing and training.
Between 1991 and 2001, Mr. Brookes was the senior vice president
of business development for SGS International Certification
Services. In this role, Mr. Brookes was a founding member
of the SAI Advisory Board, the program manager for social
accountability, an SA8000 lead auditor and trainer, and assisted
SAI in performing social accountability reporting evaluations.
Mr. Brookes also participated in the development of the certification
program for SGS for SA8000. Prior to joining SGS, he was a
quality consultant and lead auditor for ISO 9001 and was a
registered auditor with IRCA. Mr. Brookes currently serves
as a member of the Accreditation Review Panel for SAAS.
Chuck Goncalves, Gap Inc.
Mr. Goncalves is Gap Inc.’s Director of Global Compliance
for the Americas region. He started at Gap Inc. over 7 years
ago as a Vendor Compliance Officer and has played a critical
role in the formation of the company's Global Compliance team,
particularly in the Americas. Mr. Goncalves now leads a team
of 9 people responsible for compliance monitoring and capacity-building
in the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America.
He has extensive experience with a wide range of compliance
issues and is also very experienced with multi-stakeholder
collaboration. Mr. Goncalves possesses a bachelor’s
degree in Business administration with a minor in management.
He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
George Jaksch, Chiquita Brands International
Mr. Jaksch was born in London and following studies of economics
(Cambridge, UK) and agriculture (Seale-Hayne, UK), he for
several years developed his own farming business in Colombia.
He first joined Chiquita Brands in Colombia in 1979 as financial
adviser to banana producers. After several years working for
Geest in Colombia and Spain, he rejoined Chiquita in 1987and
became operations manager of the Armuelles division on the
Pacific coast of Panama. In 1989 Mr. Jaksch became director
of quality control (Europe), based in the Netherlands, and
soon afterwards was promoted to become responsible for quality
assurance systems in Chiquita’s worldwide banana business,
with residence in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since 1999, Mr. Jaksch
has returned to Europe, initially as director of the marketing
and sales operation in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and
more recently with increasing involvement in Chiquita’s
corporate responsibility work and public affairs. A member
of Chiquita’s corporate responsibility steering committee,
he has actively and with conviction supported the evolution
of the concept. As a lead auditor, he has conducted the SA8000
audits in Chiquita’s Honduran, Guatemalan and Costa
Rican divisions, together with independent observers from
human rights NGO’s and trade unions. Mr. Jaksch is a
member of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
Eileen Kaufman, Social Accountability
International
Ms. Kaufman serves as Executive Director of Social Accountability
International. She has held this position since SAI was incorporated
in 1997. Prior to joining SAI, she was Director of Strategic
Planning at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection,
a strategic planner at the NYC Department of Design and Construction,
and a financial planner at the NYC Water Board. At SAI’s
inception, she worked at the Council on Economic Priorities,
co-authoring Paper Profits, an analysis of paper mill pollution
and its control. Ms. Kaufman is a graduate of Wellesley College,
where she earned a B.A. in Economics. Ms. Kaufman also holds
an M.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia
University.
Alice Tepper Marlin Social Accountability
International
Ms. Tepper Marlin serves as President & CEO of Social
Accountability International. She has held this position since
1997, upon the founding of SAI. She is currently also Adjunct
Professor of Markets and Ethics at NYU’s Stern School
of Business. Ms. Tepper Marlin has received numerous awards
(e.g. Adweek and Mademoiselle Woman of the Year, Japan Society
Fellow, Ashoka, Right Livelihood Award, Wellesley college
Alumna of the Year), been profiled in various newspapers and
magazines around the world (e.g. New York Times, People, Time,
Le Monde) and has also been interviewed on numerous television
and radio programs (e.g. Today Show, Good Morning America,
CNN). In 1969, Ms. Tepper Marlin founded the Council on Economic
Priorities (CEP) and served for three decades as President
& CEO. At CEP, she wrote and/or edited dozens of books,
including Shopping for a Better World (Ballantine Books).
Earlier, she served as a Securities Analyst and Labor Economist
at Burnham & Co., and as the editor of the tax journal
of the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation in the
Netherlands.
Geoff Martin-Henry, TNT Express
Mr. Martin-Henry, Director Corporate Sustainability, began
working for TNT in Australia as a debtors clerk and spent
the next 14 years working his way up the financial ladder
through various TNT Divisions, ending up as a Financial Controller
for their Security division. At that stage, Mr. Martin-Henry
transferred to the Express Courier division in Windsor, UK
where he worked for 2 years in IT development before moving
to Amsterdam to form a new global head office for the Express
Division. Mr. Martin-Henry spent the next 14 years in the
Head Office working in various roles including Commercial
and Product Development before taking over the Corporate Sustainability
role for the Express Division. Prior to working for TNT, Mr.
Martin-Henry spent 6 years working for the Australian Government
and 4 years organising camping tours around Europe. He graduated
from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Economics degree
and has worked for TNT for 30 years. Mr. Martin-Henry is a
member of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
Mike Patrick, TNT Express
Mike Patrick is the Director of Health, Safety & Environment
for TNT Express. He is responsible for the development and
implementation of the global strategies for corporate social
responsibility. Mr. Patrick joined TNT Express health and
safety department in Amsterdam and has held various positions
over the last five years within the divisional head office.
Prior to this position, Mr. Patrick was Director of Corporate
Social Responsibility and has been responsible for Environment,
ISO and OHSAS Standards, Sustainability and Environmental
Stewardship programs globally. As Mr. Patrick has global responsibility,
he and his team travel extensively to support the business
units and countries in achieving the corporate social responsibility
strategy and standards. He is a qualified engineer and has
worked in manufacturing, enforcement, training, human resources,
risk management and operations in the public and private sectors.
He is a chartered member of the Institute of Occupational
Safety and Health and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the
Promotion of Health.
Mort Winston, The College of New
Jersey
Dr. Winston is currently Professor at The College of New Jersey
and has served as Department Chair and Director of the Center
for Instructional Enhancement. His areas of specialization
include human rights theory, applied ethics, cognitive science,
and philosophy of technology. Dr. Winston’s most recent
books are "On Chomsky" and "Society, Ethics,
and Technology". He has contributed numerous articles
and chapters on topics related to human rights, biomedical
ethics, and applied ethics. Dr. Winston has held a visiting
faculty fellowship at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson
School of Public and International Affairs, and received a
Fulbright Scholarship to South Africa. He has lectured extensively
on human rights topics and was awarded a second Fulbright
Scholarship to Thailand. In addition to his academic career,
Dr. Winston has pursued a parallel career as a human rights
activist with Amnesty International. From 1985-1991 he served
as Director of the South Africa Coordination Group of Amnesty
International USA, served as a member of AIUSA's national
Board of Directors from 1991-1997, and as Chair of the Board
from 1995-1997. He is currently Chair of AI’s Standing
Committee on Organization and Development and was founding
Chair of the Business and Economic Relations Group of Amnesty
International USA. He is also currently Honorary Chairman
of the Board of Directors of AIUSA. Dr. Winston is a member
of the SA8000 Advisory Board.
